The title of this painting is less about the cat and more about our late beagle mix, Archie. He was a unique little dude who was scared of the weirdest things—and this painting was one of them!
I started with the pumpkin and then drew the basic outline of the cat. The first thing I painted was the eyes because I wanted them to be the focal point. As I sat at the kitchen table painting, I held it up to show my husband. Archie took one look at it, immediately ran upstairs and hid in our bedroom.
I wasn’t sure the painting was really the reason—but every time I showed my husband my progress, the dog ran upstairs. I mean…it’s a good painting—but really!
I liked this one so much that I had it matted and framed. Every year, when I took it out of the closet to hang for Halloween, Archie would see me carrying it and—up the stairs he’d go.
Sadly, we lost Archie this year at the age of 14. I’ll think of his sweet little scaredy-cat self every time I hang this Scaredy Cat.
